On my 1979 tiger annual the oil cooler flange was found to have a crack. The oil cooler itself works fine, it is just the mounting flange that is cracked. No one seems to accept the idea of simply welding the crack and I am willing to assume that they know better than me — but what is wrong with that approach ? Thanks for any information you can
Good suggestion. I will be providing the avionics. Do you know of any shops in New Hampshire that do quality work at a reasonable price good suggestion. I will be providing the avionics. Do you know of any shops in New Hampshire that do quality work at a reasonable price for installing the equipment?
I have a ’79 Tiger and I want to put in a minimal ifr system. I know there are pros and cons re: used equipment, new equipment, precision approach equipment, non precision approach equipment, etc. I live in the upstate NY area. Can anyone recommend an avionics shop that does quality work at a reasonable price in NY or Conn or Ma or Vt? Thanks much.
I have a ’79 Tiger that doesn’t have any squawks that I know of but when it does or it needs an annual would like to bring it to someone familiar with Grumman Tigers in the Albany, NY area. I thought there was a list of such mechanics on the site but I can’t find it. Can anyone recommend someone within approx. 100 nm of Albany, NY. Thanks.
I have a 1977 tiger which is running beautifully with no squawks. I have attached photos of the front landing gear strut. From a strictly cosmetic point of view is there any technical reason not to lightly sand down the areas to smooth out the portions where the paint meets the missing paint and then carefully spray the whole thing with some…[Read more]
While changing my transponder someone had noticed that I had a broken rudder return spring. I ordered two new ones (approx. $7.00) and had them installed by the mechanic at my airport. The time was 2.3 hours. Seems awfully long to me to install two springs but I will be the first to admit I didn’t even know the plane had rudder return springs!
So is it legal for me to glue this piece back together and put the proper screw and washer on it? It seems to be held on only with one screw on top, one on the bottom and it is pressed into position. Seems to be a faring and not anything structural. If so do you have any recommendations as to what adhesive I should use and does the particular…[Read more]
I have an aa-5b tiger and it appears on videos I have seen that the ag-5b has a heftier more substantial looking yoke. Mine has a push to talk on both yokes. Assuming it is larger, is it a big deal to have the ag-5b yoke put onto the aa-5b tiger? As always thanks for any response
Thank you for the information. I was looking to get a camera to video inside the cockpit. Do you know if it will also record ATC communication and where does it get the input for the heading and the airspeed in the altitude? Thanks so much and happy new year
As always thank you for your information. I truly appreciate it. I had already seen that video but somebody told me that somebody told them that they thought someone else told them that to do the front fairing you had to actually remove the front wheel. It was hearsay about nine times removed. That is not correct is it? Again thanks for your quick…[Read more]
Never done it before. Is there anything particularly difficult about removing the front and main gear wheel pants On a Grumman tiger assuming I am reasonably adept at using hand tools? Is it legal?
