Ray Seligman started the topic iPad mount in Tiger in the forum Operation of Our Aircraft 1 year, 6 months ago
Like everyone else I have been trying 6,524 different positions for my iPad with firelight and I finally found one that works well. In the first photo is a little hold that I drilled to screw in a small round cap to hold the iPad against the glare shield. It is not attached anywhere else but is absolutely, 100% rock solid and in the second photo…[Read more]

A realistic and secure iPad mount?
So, probably like most of us, I use ForeFlight on my iPad while flying my tiger. I think I have tried every possible combination of gadgets, hinges, connectors etc. to try to get it placed in a spot where it didn’t bounce, it was easy to get to and didn’t obscure any instrumentation and by golly I think I fou…[Read more]

Got one for my plane. A tiger AA-5Bwith wheel pants. It works absolutely beautifully and I would recommend it to anyone.

Should read “pushing it is a bear” not “using it is a bear”

Does anyone have any experience with any of the battery operated electric tugs on a Tiger with wheelpants? Good? Bad? Cost? I can pull mine ok but using it is a bear and I do have a winch setup that pulls from the front but it is a pain to use. Has anyone used or see the ACC4kjr from DJ products in use? Looks like it should be up to the task. Thanks.

I have a 1979 Tiger and I was looking to install the power flow exhaust. Is there anyone around who is actually done it and can tell me what it changes I might expect to see in terms of climb, fuel burn and cruise speed? Thanks

So I brought my 1979 Tiger in for its first annual which included pulling the nose gear per the requirements. It had not been pulled in about three or four years and when they got it out they said it was a little pitted but otherwise okay and they were able to clean it, grease it and put it back in. They tell me it took 10 hours to get it out. Is…[Read more]

Thanks for the information. As usual you seem to have the ability to bring a problem to it’s very basics. Really good to see you back on line and I hope that your recuperation is going well.

On my 1979 tiger annual the oil cooler flange was found to have a crack. The oil cooler itself works fine, it is just the mounting flange that is cracked. No one seems to accept the idea of simply welding the crack and I am willing to assume that they know better than me — but what is wrong with that approach ? Thanks for any information you can

I have a ’79 Tiger and I want to put in a minimal ifr system. I know there are pros and cons re: used equipment, new equipment, precision approach equipment, non precision approach equipment, etc. I live in the upstate NY area. Can anyone recommend an avionics shop that does quality work at a reasonable price in NY or Conn or Ma or Vt? Thanks much.

I have a ’79 Tiger that doesn’t have any squawks that I know of but when it does or it needs an annual would like to bring it to someone familiar with Grumman Tigers in the Albany, NY area. I thought there was a list of such mechanics on the site but I can’t find it. Can anyone recommend someone within approx. 100 nm of Albany, NY. Thanks.

Ray Seligman started the topic Is this reasonable to do? in the forum Landing Gear 2 years, 9 months ago
I have a 1977 tiger which is running beautifully with no squawks. I have attached photos of the front landing gear strut. From a strictly cosmetic point of view is there any technical reason not to lightly sand down the areas to smooth out the portions where the paint meets the missing paint and then carefully spray the whole thing with some…[Read more]

Ray Seligman started the topic How long to replace rudder return springs in the forum Control Surfaces 2 years, 9 months ago
I supplied the rudder return springs and was charged for 2 1/2 hrs. labor to have them installed. Is that reasonable? Thanks.

While changing my transponder someone had noticed that I had a broken rudder return spring. I ordered two new ones (approx. $7.00) and had them installed by the mechanic at my airport. The time was 2.3 hours. Seems awfully long to me to install two springs but I will be the first to admit I didn’t even know the plane had rudder return springs!
Is…[Read more]

Thank you so much. That is perfect. If I go to my local mechanic will he know what type of screw and washer that is? Does it have to be replaced with an identical one?. Again, thanks so much.
